Darkness Unleashed (Guardians of Eternity, Book 5) Review

Alexandra Ivy continues to mesmerize and hold us captive with her Guardians of Eternity series.

Every book is inter related and a lot of the previous characters reappear in the novels, which is one of the endearing and captivating things about this marvelous paranormal series.

We met Jagr, in the previous book. The Annaso, Styx, King of the Vampires sends for Jagr to find his mate's Darcy's sister - whom they have realized has escaped from 30 years of captivity from a manipulative and evil imp, Culligan.

The story starts as Regan, who has recently escaped Culligan's clutches, is in hot pursuit of revenge of the Imp and seeks his death from years of captivity and torture. Jagr has been sent on a mission. He is an unstable and recluse, lethal vampire and he cant believe he has been sent on this mission - looking for a pureblood Were and bring her back to Chicago as if he were her nursemaid. How humiliating!

Little does Jagr and Regan realize that they are both caught as pawns in the dangerous and lethal war between the curs and the Weres. Caine, rogue leader of his curs believe that they can come up from the bottom of the pack by mating with purebloods Weres. As you read on, you learn that there were 4 genetically altered Were sisters, unable to shift but of pureblood all the same.

The bond between Jagr and Regan is unmistakable from the start. Jagr is perplexed by his reaction to Regan as he has been a recluse for centuries - as he underwent terrible torture in captivity for 3 centuries and all he wants is to have peace in his heavily secured lair and to be left alone. Yet he realizes that a lone Vampire that isn't part of a clan can be prey to many demons and he begrudgingly accepts the mission to go and find Regan and bring her back to the Annaso's home where she won't be hunted by the curs.

The electric currents between Jagr and Regan are like bolts of lightning. Regan - after recently escaping captivity will not put up with any arrogant and self serving, macho, dagger wielding, Rico Suave Vampire telling her what to do with her new found freedom. Though she is very attracted to Jagr - she cant quite succumb to the attraction. When she finds out about his captivity, she is shocked to realize that not only she feels tremendous sexual attraction for Jagr, but they share a common bond that no-one but each other understand.

Ivy does it again. She manages to create a stage where every character, even the most vile of villains has its place and were everyone interacts with tremendous humor, charisma, tenderness and hot and heavy sexual scenes and tension.

The repartee is fabulously funny, from Regan as well as from our beloved gargoyle of all time, Levet. The interplay and developing relationship between Jagr and Regan is so endearing, at the same time as being sizzling hot. Some of the best sexual scenes interweaved amidst some great kick butt action!!! All in all, I really loved Jagr and Regan's story and I cant wait to read the next installment - about Salvatore Giuliani - King of the Weres and the third genetically altered twin Harley - who has been raised to believe that Salvatore killed her other three sisters.

Go get DARKNESS UNLEASHED and I am sure you are going to devour it in one sitting like I did! This is one of the best paranormal series I have read, ENJOY!!

The latest: track down a missing were pureblood and return her to her sister. The problem: Regan Garrett has no intention of complying. Hell, in centuries...Regan vowed never to be at the mercy of another man. That goes double for arrogant, steel-muscled vampires with eyes of ice. good book POOR EDITING - C. Price - DC, USA
I like her books ~ but one has to wonder who is editing these books these days, it was TERRIBLE ~ they kept mixing up the name of one of the characters ~ there were words in the wrong place. it got tedious after a while. Unfortunately I am noticing it more and more in the books I read

It managed to hit every paranormal cliche - monifa - brooklyn, new york United States
I have to admit, I am soooo over the vampire romance genre because of writers like this, they take what starts out as an interesting theme and manage to flog it to death, this one is about a vampire who was tortured for three hundred years, he escapes, swears fealty to a vampire chief and is subsequently commanded to hunt for, and find, the sibling of his overlords mate. He is the usual "emotionally scarred" soul, who is attracted to the aforementioned sibling who is a werewolf , and of course he finds out very shortly afterwards that they are soulmates(cliche). And of course the object of his affection who has also been kept in a cage for thirty years, despite her issues manages to (yawn) leap into bed with him a few chapters in ,have wonderful explosive sex, they surprise surprise find out get bonded, and presumably live happily and boringly ever after. Now of course there are the usual suspects - a villain , the sidekicks including a french gargoyle who is supposed to be cute but who ends up just irritating, the other heroes who you just know are going to have their own books because they are also recluses with issues and you can just tell all they need is the love of a good woman, and they'll be "ait". What I found most annoying was how the writer portrayed the heroine, she came across as an infantile fembot(female robot), who made token gestures at independence but pretty much subsided in to the background and let the "real men" take over and problem solve,as someone else pointed out,the hero kept referring to her as "little", and she used terms such as "you big jerk".All inall their interactions seemed to consist of her making bad decisions and, the hero coming to the rescue , accompanied by her pouting, and him patting her on the head so to speak. About the only decent characters in thee book were the villains who ended up getting killed, my favorite was Sadie who was at least allowed to plan and execute decisions. If you like Sherrilyn Kenyon's crappy stuff then you will enjoy this, but if you enjoy real kickass female characters then go for Kelley Armstrong,or the husband wife team that write as Ilona Andrews, or Patricia Briggs to mention just a few. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this sort of imitation is a cheap knock off.
