Great Price for

Prophecy of the Flame (Love's Dawning) Review

This book was amazing. I HATE reading. I really do. This book was recommended to me, and I bought it on kindle, cause I mean hey! it's cheap! why not. I started reading, and became enthralled with it. I couldn't put it down. I wore out the battery on my ipod touch kindle app, I am now in love with the characters, and their development is top notch. Everytime something happens in the book, I wonder what the outcome will be. It's not campy, which is good, it's not political which is also great. The story keeps you wanting more, and more is what I am excited to read as I just purchased book two!

Go out and buy this, it's cheaply priced, and wonderfully written. You will not be disappointed!

All in all, this book receives a 5 star review from me, with a warning to Stephanie Meyer, that this book is going to go places your books only dreamed they would go.

Prophecy of the Flame (Love's Dawning) Overview

In a blinding flash of light, five nondescript strangers are yanked from this world and thrust into a land of sorcery as they are granted the looks and abilities of the people they were pretending to be. This band of wannabe heroes soon discovers that having the powers they have always dreamed of, does not make life a dream come true. The Crusaders of the Light struggle to form a cohesive band as they blend twentieth century technology with the supernatural powers of this new world, fighting to liberate the kingdom of Cuthburan from the evil horde threatening humanity.

Battle is also waged within Reba, an ordinary housewife who has become the most powerful mage on the planet, as she struggles to remain true to her wedding vows. Drawn against her will to the arms of Prince Alexandros, Reba must choose between the prophesied marriage to a handsome prince in a magical world or returning to the husband she left behind.

What a surprise.... - Plain Jane - TX
I don't usually read too much fantasy, but I was hooked after the first chapter. This book is written in a unique style that really draws you into the story, it's like you become part of the story! I literally couldn't put this book down.

I can't wait for the next book...

Prophecy of the Flame (Love's Dawning) - Lorie -
This series is hard to put down. The first book is an easy fast pace read that left me wanting more. I am so glad that book two finally came out. I feel like a spoiled kid that just wants more of Lynn's writting.

Fun - not too heavy on the romance. - Tony - Virginia
I must say, I was not sure about this book because of the cover: "Love's Dawning" kind of made me think it might be to romancy for me. I'm okay with a little romance, but I'm not a romance kind of guy.

The relationships in this book are a full part of the story, that is true, but it wasn't overbearing. It was really necessary to the plot and added a great deal to it.

Also the writing style really draws you into the story. It kind of reminds me of Modesitt's books: The Magic of Recluce (Recluce series, Book 1). I can't wait for the next book! (I hear it's due out anytime now.)

Check Out Heart of Darkness: The Darkest Angel\Love Me to Death\Lady of the Nile for $3.89

Heart of Darkness: The Darkest Angel\Love Me to Death\Lady of the Nile Review

I know I'm a bad bad Book Lover but I only read Gena's story in this anthology, so this review is only for The Darkest Angel.

I'm a total Gena Showalter addict so I was really thrilled to find this book on netgalley in January. Why did it take me sooo long to read then you ask yourself? Bad case of being unable to remember netgalley even exists. You know, it's not like a my real life bookshelf that taunts me every day with my huge Mount TBR but that is beside the fact and has nothing to do with the book. LOL

As all Gena Showalter books The Darkest Angel is an hilarious wild ride with an appropriate (bad choice of word I know *wink*) amount of steam. I always love how Gena creates these witty and funny conversations between her characters and their actions, in this case Bianka's, often leave me speechless but laughing really hard.

Lysander is a demon-killing angel with a new goal: he HAS to make Bianka into a decent person. Problem is: she's a harpy and that's coming with a few limitations she just can't break. For once she can only eat what she earned or stole. And you can imagine which way she chooses. She's driving him crazy. But why only this harpy and not all the other creatures that go bump in the night? She seems to be his only temptation. He wants to touch her and you can't imagine what that means to an angel. I loved the way he struggled with his desires. And his thoughts are hilarious. How long can a man wonder how it would feel to touch the skin of a woman without doing so? I wanted to scream: "Do it! Be a man and just start the touching!" But he really took his time. He loves to be an angel and the last thing on his mind is falling and he is afraid that will happen if he gives in to her temptation.

Bianka is hard to explain. She is strong, witty, funny and a girl you don't want to mess with. And if you do be aware that she really knows how to pay you back. She made me cry from laughter with her stubbornness and big mouth. She's a force of nature and brings total chaos into Lysander's life. At first she just wants to get her will and have fun while doing it (she really knows how do make it Fun) but after a bit of time with Lysander she sees what he really is- a really hot piece of cake.

The relationship between this two is stormy from the start and I loved the way it developed. The back and forth was entertaining and when they finally got to the point it was unbelievable hot. These two are really made for each other. I love when our couple of interest knows exactly how to push the buttons of each other.

I loved reading this story and this story alone is reason enough to buy this book. Gena again created a story that made me laugh and brought perhaps a small tear to my eyes. Highly recommended to sweeten up a lonely Sunday afternoon. This book will totally make your day.

Angel and Harpy - Chelsea Marie Spencer -
I bought this book only really caring about Gena Showalter's story, Darkest Angel, so that's the only story I can reasonably review. I was fairly pleased with it.

For an approximately 140 page long story in manages to accomplish a lot. The premise is that Lysander, who belongs to a high class of angels, identifies Bianka, a harpy, as his one temptation. He chooses to try to deal with this by kidnapping her and teaching her to be like him--good in every way. She in turn tries to seduce him.

I can't really say the characters were deep or well developed. But they were likeable enough. And I feel this book will tie in well with the next full novel. It introduces the angel Olivia, the next leading lady, and comments a lot on the rules and duties of the angels. I really wish the story had been a bit longer, so that more developement could take place. But, I think that if you are a fan of the Lords of the Underworld series, you should make an effort to read this story.

don't buy - dspier -
Like the other reviewers, I got this book for the Showalter story, "Darkest Angel". It wasn't bad, but hardly worth the price of the book. It takes up the story of the Lords of the Underworld with a secondary character, the harpy sister of the wife of one of the lords. It doesn't further that storyline at all, but is another romance. This time it is between a harpy and an angel, Lysander. While Lysander talks about the fear of being corrupted by a possibly evil being (the harpy), he doesn't seem to be particularly saintly or even a very bright bulb. He has no problem with unsanctified sexual activity, kidnapping, or even crime, as long as it's committed against bad people, so one wonders what is particularly angelic about him. The biggest barrier to their relationship is his embarrassment at being attracted to a harpy - but there didn't seem to be much difference in values between them. Much ado about nothing.
"Love Me To Death" has a good plot - four boys accidentally killing a girl in a house fire, only to have her turn up again 22 years later. The boys were interesting characters, and if there was more space for development, I could have gotten very involved with them. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough space. So in addition to shortchanging some good characters, the girl in the story made no sense at all. Everything is so rushed, there's no development, so she comes across as a rather dull wack job instead of a young girl capable of attracting a 38 year old man.
"Lady of the Nile" was just awful. Trying to figure out what was going on with these ancient Egyptians was hard enough. When it finally was clear, the story seemed ridiculous and the dialogue embarrassing rather than moving. The basic idea is that Egyptian gods are battling for power over thousands of years by using reincarnation to keep fighting to the death, only to be reborn again. The people in the story are the reincarnation of characters who have been dead for thousands of years who were the reincarnation of the gods, and all three versions of their consciousness show up at various times. The modern day people seem to accept the situation with admirable acceptance ( "you are really the goddess Isis, NOT the duchess?" Oh I see . . . .).
If you want a book to kill time while in a waiting room or something, you might want to take this one out of the library or borrow it from someone. Don't bother to buy it though.

Only purchased for Darkest Angel..... - R. Little - Saratoga Springs, NY USA
I loved the Darkest Angel story. I am an avid fan of Gena Showalter, especially her Lord of the Underworld series. I wish she would've written this as it's own full length book-but it worked regardless. Alone I would give the story a 4-5 rating.

Love Me to Death was a good story, well written and kept you interested. I would rate this story at 3 stars.
However, as I got to reading the third story (Lady of the Nile) I couldn't really wait to be done with the book, I came very close to not even finishing the story. It was confusing, and not very well written. I'm sure you don't have to ask what rating I would give this one! (sorry)

My personal opinion is authors like Gena Showalter need to be kept with writers of the same level (at the very least) and somewhere, someone needs to be honest and speak up when the story doesn't make much sense. Preferably, before the story is published. Save the poor writer (and readers) some bad reviews!

To Seduce a Sinner: Library Edition (The Legend of the Four Soldiers Series) Review

It's rare that I find a book I can't put down but To Seduce A Sinner kept me up all last night - what a great read! This sensuous tale speaks strongly to the healing power of love without being heavy-handed. Hoyt's characters are beautifully crafted with wit and flaws. Even the supporting cast is multi-dimensional enough to remain memorable and leave me wanting more. Watching Melisande and Jasper struggle to find a balance between their differing personalities, expectations, and experiences is a treat. Hoyt provides a nice blend of humor, steamy sex, and dramatic conflicts. I particularly enjoyed Melisande's character. She started out so bland (which worried me) but she quickly grew in depth. I loved that she started to gain the upper hand in their relationship, without any trite manipulations. I also especially appreciated the accurate scenes true to a marriage of convenience, including their first awkward (and lacking) sexual encounter and the inappropriate gift that follows. I do agree with previous reviewers that the language used in some of the sex scenes was giggle-inspiring but the sensuality makes up for it. The side stories involving Pynch & Sally and Alistair & Helen (whose romance continues in Hoyt's To Beguile a Beast) contribute to the tale rather than providing a distraction. All in all, a wonderful read.

To Seduce a Sinner: Library Edition (The Legend of the Four Soldiers Series) Overview

Jasper Renshaw, Viscount Vale, has a problem: he needs to marry and produce an heir to the title. All Jasper wants is to find a lady who will put up with him long enough to wed so he can retreat to his life of debauchery--a life that keeps the haunting memories of his past at bay. Knowing that Jasper is under pressure to marry, Melisande Flemming grasps her fate with both hands and volunteers to wed him. Although Jasper is initially only interested in producing an heir, he soon becomes entranced by his wife--prim and proper by day, wanton by night-- and vows to learn her secrets.

Melissande, however, is determined to keep her husband at a distance. She has loved, and lost, before, and will do anything to keep him from learning her terrible weakness: she's secretly been in love with him for years. But to her chagrin, her husband pursues her, wooing her as if she were a paramour, not his lady wife. As Melissande and Jasper embark on a passionate game of cat and mouse, secrets from the past begin to resurface.... threatening to tear them asunder.

Slow development of romance, kinda dull - RomReader -
Plain-looking 28-yr-old non-virgin spinster proposes marriage to flippant but emotionally-scarred rakish war hero who she's been in love with for 6 yrs right after he was jilted by his fiance. But heroine doesn't want him to know about her love for fear of going through the pain of rejection again like shed did after being rejected by her ex-fiance 10 yrs prior. Hero becomes attracted to heroine later during their marriage after she sets out to seduce him but he's reticent about his war trauma b/c of how its still affecting him.

I've only read & loved Hoyt's previous Prince books. I did not love this book. This book was slower-paced & not as riveting as her other ones. The romance was just not very engaging or exciting. It lacked the hot sexual chemistry & passion of Hoyt's older books. The characters seemed emotionally distant from each other until the last half of the book. The writing is still good though.

Partially recommended.

A mixed bag of tricks (Laughing Jack not included) - J. Stevenson - Southwest US
There were times I scratched my head while reading this: why, exactly, did Melisande love Jasper so much? Does "a look" justify SIX YEARS of waiting in the wings for a person? And what if one of the original brides hadn't cleared the way for Melisande?

Jasper's character, on the other hand, was a little easier to understand. Clearly a sensitive man with demons but (thankfully) nowhere near a saint. The way he accepted Melisande initially in such an offhanded manner was understandable and in sync with his character.

The second half of the book was definitely the "good stuff" and the ending was satisfactory without being too sappy. We can only hope that one day Jasper will sleep in a bed!

I must admit this story would've rated fewer stars without the Laughing Jack installments. These were such a wonderful addition to the story and I hurried through a few chapters just to read about Jack's next adventure!

Unbelievably Cheesy Hero, Language So Lame, Humor Horrible! - Lily Bart - The House of Mirth
I read THE LEOPARD PRINCE and was blown away, so when I had the chance to order a Large Print copy of this book from my library I was really excited.

Boy was I let down!

I know that many romance readers love the old-fashioned Regency hero, the kind who is always nursing a hangover and trading dry witticisms with his valet. But this Jasper guy bored me to tears! He is the most shallow, smug guy I have ever seen in a romance. And there is NO connection between his limp, dandified lifestyle and the supposed "trauma" of his combat experiences.

What makes it so grating to read this book is not so much the plot, or even the characters, but the "humor" that is squeezed into every paragraph. It's all stuff like, "Jasper chose his shiniest pair of boots, knowing that a man might murder orphans so long as he wore shiny boots to ride in the park." Oh, that's funny, all right. Georgette Heyer, meet Groucho Marx!

The heroine was the usual plain, but loving, but determined type we've all met a thousand, million, zillion times before. That's okay . . . but why would she fall for this yutz? I mean, there was a lame explanation, about his Compassion and Dark Secret, but the man we actually SEE is about as seductive as a drunk flounder.

Elizabeth Hoyt, I think that LEOPARD PRINCE and RAVEN PRINCE were masterpieces that were totally innovative. Please, please don't try to write "traditional" Regencies like this. It is so ewwww!

This whole book just left me going, "WTF?"

It's a Regency expression. It means, "What tremendous folly!"

Lady Sophia's Lover (Bow Street, Book 2) Review

I was surprisingly entertained while reading this book. I am a fan of romance novels and after reading a fair amount, they all seem to blend in together. This story was different and captivating. This was also the first book I've read from this author. After finishing this one, I downloaded Worth Any Price (the third and last of the Bow Street Runner's series). I still enjoyed this book more than Nick Gentry's story.
I thought the characters were well developed and the relationship between the two leads unfolded seamlessly. There was a lot of sexual tension throughout the book, which made me root for Sophia and Sir Ross at every turn. I highly recommend this romance read, a very memorable story.

Lady Sophia's Lover (Bow Street, Book 2) Overview

Why is Lady Sophia looking for a lover?
And
could she seduce the most marriageable man in London?

Lady Sophia Sydney would do anything to ensnare the unattainable Sir Ross Cannon. Her goal -- to ruin his reputation and cause a scandal that would be the talk of all London. So she insinuates herself into his life by gaining his trust and living in his house.

Every morning, her lush presence tempts him beyond all reason...the way she bends over the table to serve him the meals she has prepared...the way her hands oh, so gently -- yet sensuously -- brush against him. Every night, she promises with her eyes -- and her body -- that the hours before dawn could be spent in unbridled passion instead of restless sleep -- if only he'd let her share his bed.

She knows he is falling more in love with her each day. But she never counted on falling in love with him. And she never dreamed he might very respectably ask for her hand in marriage...

Are you ready to be seduced by New York Times Bestselling Author
Lisa Kleypas
and her most compelling love story yet?

Major disappointment, read her other series instead! - JennyH - New York, USA
My advice, read her other series instead. Wallflowers is great, so is Hathaways (save for book 4). As for this series, sorry but as someone who enjoyed Kleypas till now I say, unfortunately, skip the entire series.

This is my feel-good book - Livia - Romania
I love Lisa Kleypas' no-nonsense, easy-flowing writing style.
And she managed to grip me with the gentle, caring, suave and still totally male Sir Ross Cannon.
I like them so much, I can feel the falling in love, sense their chemistry and they interact for most of the book!
Indeed, their feelings drive the book, not the plot. And it does have a lot of love scenes but are very well done.
It's a book I am sure to reread for the warm yet passionate connection the heroes have. I even agree with some of the negative reviews but I still loved this book!

Love the Bow Street Runners - Tamela Quijas - The far, far far Southwestern USA
Lady Sophia's Lover has everything, revenge, intrigue, Bow Street runners, a dashing bad guy with a questionable past. From page 1, this book hooks the reader in and does my favorite bit, grants an insight into the hero and the heroine's thoughts. Ms. Kleypas did not write the standard, run of the mill romance and her research into the legendary Bow Street runners was spot on

Scoundrels, Rakes, Rogues, galore when reformed they become MAGNANIMOUS MEN & ENTICINGLY APPETIZING HUSBANDS. This novel, Lady Sophia's Lover, Devil in Winter, & Worth Any Price, are by far the greatest erotic novels written by Lisa Kleypas, I've read thus far. Yes, it can be overwhelming explicit at times. And yes, I did blush & became embarassed; however, the revelation discovered at the conclusion by all the characters involved was GOUNDBREAKINGLY EXQUISITE, well worth the read.

Every single novel written by Lisa Kleypas, is overwhelmingly surprising, and I'm intensely infacuated with all of them. All the character's within in LK's series are basically interlaced with each other; therefore, to fully comprehend them you should start with the first novels that were written. Don't do as I have, I started with Mine Till Midnight. And, I've been working backwards since; however, I'm extremely enthused with discovering the triumphs of the characters who have been mentioned. AS USUAL LK DESERVES WELL BEYOND A 10 STAR RATING!!

Suddenly You Overview

She was unmarried, untouched and almost thirty, but novelist Amanda Briars wasn't about to greet her next birthday without making love to a man. When he appeared at her door, she believed he was her gift to herself, hired for one night of passion. Unforgettably handsome, irresistibly virile, he tempted her in ways she never thought possible...but something stopped him from completely fulfilling her dream.

Jack Delvin's determination to possess Amanda became greater when she discovered his true identity. But gently-bred Amanda craved respectability more than she admitted, while Jack, the cast-off son of a nobleman and London's most notorious businessman, refused to live by society's rules. Suddenly You Specifications

Setting: London 1836

Sensuality: 8

Successful novelist Amanda Briars buys herself a scandalous present to celebrate her 30th birthday. Of gentle birth, unwed, and still a virgin, she contracts with a well-known madam to deliver a lover to her home. When handsome publisher Jack Devlin knocks on her door, it doesn't take him long to figure out that Amanda thinks he's someone else entirely. Intrigued, he stops just short of taking the lady's virginity, for he has other plans for the talented writer.

When she discovers Jack's true identity at a gathering of writers and publishers, Amanda is first angry, then fascinated, as he is a powerful force in the London publishing industry. Jack is determined to court Amanda not only to publish her novels, but also to lure her into his bed, and it isn't long before the two are deeply involved. But their path to happiness is strewn with stumbling blocks: Jack has a past that haunts him, while Amanda's family would be hurt by a scandalous liaison.

Suddenly You is a lush, deeply romantic tale of two free spirits who learn that they are, after all, susceptible to the binding ties of love. The setting provides readers with a different view of London society--the lives of affluent writers and artists rather than the world of the nobility--and a fascinating look into the publishing industry in 1800s London. Once again, Kleypas has delivered a well-written, sensual novel that's sure to hit the bestseller lists. --Lois Faye Dyer

Cheesy but still a very nice read - Livia - Romania
- All the chichees used here fit very well together or are beautifully merged into context.
- This book had a good beginning. It doesn't even matter that the chemistry fades, even with all the inserted sex scenes and the hero's yumminess.
- The second half is still written in the beautiful, to the point, interesting and sensual Kleypas way but it feels like a looong epilogue added to assure us they are happy together forever.

I agree with 95% of the reviews from Amazon. Even the negative ones are right and to the point but if compared with what you find in the historical romance department you'll find this book to be way above average.

Very well written - Book lover - Baltimore, MD
Really liked this one. Lisa Kleypas is one of the writers who knows how to create likeable characters. I have read many of her books and although I liked "Dreaming of you" the best, this one was very good as well. Amanda is a very pragmatic woman and Jack is an ambitious guy. Kleypas creates a very believable story line and you are rooting for them all the way. There is not a part in the book that I felt was unnecessary. Everything they feel is very much in line with who they are. Definitely worth reading

Steamy and substantial read - Rowan Templar - Brooklyn, NY
Well no wonder this book had such great reviews - it was really deserving. Characters are well rounded, witty, passionate and interesting! I love the storyline - a fleshy, "aging" spinster author with the sharpest mind around playing against a handsome, half-Irish rake with a mind just as brilliant. Loved this read, and finished it in a day. The sexual passages were expertly, tastefully, descriptively and passionately written **steamy but not lurid**. highly recommended, and bravo Ms Kleypas! will be reading more of your work in the future

Forbidden Falls (Virgin River) Review

A wonderful addition to the Virgin River series - even if it might seem that 10 is too many, but Carr's writing is so well done and her books are so well-written that her Virgin River series continues to draw readers.

Each book in Carr's series focuses on a new romance but in the other books in this series the reader is kept up-to-date about what was going on in the lives of all the original characters. Forbidden falls has less of these POV changes, which is disappointing, but the story itself is up to Carr standard. Noah comes to Virgin River after buying the old church in town. After advertising for the position, he hires a young woman named Ellie to be his assistant and to help him get the church clean and functional again.

It is definitely recommended to read these in order, which is available on the author's website.

A comfortable Christian romance - David N. Parker - Colfax, NC USA
This contemporary romance brings together Noah Kincaid, a well-to-do recently ordained minister and Ellie Baldwin, a young mother willing to do almost anything to support herself and her child.
Noah has purchased a run-down church in a small Northern California town to establish his congregation. The building is in terrible condition; he will need to make many repairs before it can be open for services. He needs help, so when Ellie answers his advertisement for a "Pastor's Assistant" he sees a young woman in need of assistance. With some trepidation, he hires her. After all, she has said she will stay only long enough to regain custody of her children from her ex-husband.
As unlikely a pair as they are, as this newly-minted Pastor and former stripper work together repairing the church building they develop a friendship. Since this is a romance, the reader knows where they will end up, but the journey there is interesting.

Is Noah Kincaid a real minister??? - B. Ferris - Northern CA

I have to say I haven't read all of Ms Carr's books but more than ½ and have loved them all.

I did enjoy Ellie & Noah's love story--2 very different people who learn to overcome their differences. Hard to believe he is a minister though LOL Mcs Carr does write her characters so well. I'm sure I don't have to go into great detail of the book because I wouldn't want to ruin it for others.

Wonderful contribution to Virgin River series and the characters will be too. Looking forward to ANGEL'S PEAK and MIDNIGHT ROAD in this trilogy

Another great book in the series. - Country Woman - Kansas
I have read all of the Virgin River books and enjoyed everyone. This is another great book in the series. The characters from previous books are here along with the newest members of the community. I'm looking forward to more books.

Check Out Possessed by the Highlander (Historical Romance)

Possessed by the Highlander (Historical Romance) Review

Marian Robertson is known as the "Robertson Harlot", and while it is a name that she doesn't deserve, she also doesn't do anything about people calling her it either. She does it all to save the life of a child.

Duncan "The Peacemaker of the MacLerie Clan" is drawn to the beauty that he finds in distress while scouting the route to his next assignment. He never thinks that the woman he sees could be the one called the "Robertson Harlot". He is further stunned when he is negotiated (tricked) into marrying her to keep his peace deal intact. But, what will he do when he learns that not all is as he believed about Marian. More than that what will happen when they fall in love, though others will try and keep them apart?

What a fantastic concept. What one will do for family love and the love of an innocent child? Also what duty and clan loyalty would do to a family? There is more than meets the eye, or in this case the "ruined" lady, when meeting Marian Robertson as well as her clan Chief brother. I found Possessed by the Highlander made me take a moment or two to think how far I would go for family and if I could withstand all the rumors and shunning. I found the overall story to be a bit of a twist on the classic tale of family loyalty and arranged marriages. I also found that I wanted to smack Duncan a time to two, but that might have just been me. Possessed by the Highlander is definitely worth the time it takes to thoroughly enjoy the story. I think Terri Brisbin has some new and fresh ideas for this genre.

Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter) Review

The third installment of the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton, Circus of the Damned, was the book that got me straight hooked on this series. I liked the first two books enough to keep reading obviously, but this is the book that grabbed at me and made me want to hurl myself into the Anita Blake universe. The first time I read this book was sometime ago- rereading the series for the Anita Blake Challenge hosted by BCC.

Anita is still hard at work as an animator and preternatural assistant to the police force. Jean-Claude, Master of the City, is hounding Anita about becoming his human servant- and surprise surprise she ends up near the gorgeous vampire she is trying to avoid. That is right, a grotesque, blood-drained body looks like it could be the work of a pack of rogue vampires and it leads her right to the Circus of the Damned. This is what I love about Anita Blake and her world- there is no down time. Anita has a full plate and that gives me action, action, action. I love a good Urban Fantasy with nonstop commotion. I mean, she has a lot of silly, feisty characters to beat down in this book! Don't worry- Hamilton is brilliant so you won't get lost in the hustle and bustle.

Oh, I can't forget, although I'd like to, we are introduced to Richard. Ya know, back when he was likable. In the later novels he becomes a bane to my existence. Whiny. Temperamental. He hates who he has to be and who Anita has become. Boo hoo. He is great in this book though, haha. I like that I can dislike Richard in later novels though- I find that I don't quite love a book if there isn't at least one character I can have a strong disdain for. Wow, rambling. This definitely isn't one of my most well thought out reviews...

My only complaint about Circus of the Damned was the immensely tiring description of clothing and weaponry. This isn't a huge complaint, sometimes it works when an outfit is painted with the author's vision. However, sometimes I like dressing the character too. ;) Erm... other times I'm just being impatient, dying to know what happens next and when there is piddle paddle in my way I get frustrated. Haha.

I loved this book. Fantastic, fast paced, satisfying. If you're into vampires and urban fantasy I recommend you hop on this series.

Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter) Overview

First time in trade paperback: the third novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

In Circus of the Damned-now in trade paperback for the first time-a rogue master vampire hits town, and Anita gets caught in the middle of an undead turf war. Jean-Claude, the Master Vamp of the city, wants her for his own-but his enemies have other plans. And to make matters worse, Anita takes a hit to the heart when she meets a stunningly handsome junior high science teacher named Richard Zeeman. They're two humans caught in the crossfire-or so Anita thinks.

Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter) Specifications

The third novel of Hamilton's Anita Blake series has the petite necromancer fighting a giant cobra and a rogue vampire, Alejandro, who wants her for his human servant. Anita is still resisting the advances of Jean-Claude, St. Louis's master vampire, but she does need him on her side, if not in her bed. Anita's reluctant involvement in the odd goings-on at the supernatural Circus of the Damned introduces her to Richard, the werewolf of her dreams, and Larry, her powerful but nervous partner in zombie-raising.

Mystery fans will love the tightly plotted, Paretsky-esque action, and horror fans will love just about everything in this unusual series.

Best of the first 3 books - book lover in Honolulu - Honolulu, HI
So far, I am liking the Anita Blake series - it's a good place holder as I'm awaiting subsequent books on other similar series. I liked this book the best of the first 3.

Couldn't Put it Down! - Kelly - SURPRISE, Azerbaijan
I just can't seem to get enough of Anita Blake. I have loved all of the first 3 books and can't wait to start Lunatic Cafe. Ms. Hamilton is an amazing writer who is able to create a world that is part science fiction, romance, suspense, mystery, thriller, horror, erotica and more. I love these books and would recommend to anyone.

Great book - Monica D. Garrett - Kingston, TN
I was very happy that this was such a step up from #2 LC. I was worried. It was much more interesting and exciting. My only complaint is Anita's toughness is almost rediculous. At least a little passion would be better than none. I hope she loosens up just a bit and seems to be woman and not she-man.

Great Urban Fantasy!... at least for the first 8-10 books... - CS - Houston, TX USA
Circus of the Damned is the 3rd book in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Anita is an expert on the paranormal. As a necromancer and licensed vampire hunter, she raising the dead and kicks vampire butt for a living. Circus of the Damned combines elements of supernatural and detective fiction and continues the story down the same lines as Hamilton's first 2 novels. It is a fantastic, fast paced Urban Fantasy, procedural-crime fiction, horror thriller.

The police ask Anita to assist with a series of gruesome murders being committed by an unknown vampire pack. She has been resisting the advances of Jean-Claude and his desire to make her his human servant. Now there is a new master vampire in town, Alejandro, and he also wants Anita as his human servant.

We're introduced to another new character, Richard Zeeman. He seems the "nice guy" alternative to Jean-Claude's manipulations and the stage is set for a love triangle between Anita, Richard, and Jean-Claude.

Vampires, werewolves, zombies, a lamia, and VooDoo Queens... and Anita is smack dab in the middle of it all. Add a touch of sociopath (Edward) and you have everything needed for a action-packed explosive showdown.

Definitely one you won't want to miss!

Hide and Seek (The Sisterhood: Rules of the Game, Book 1) Review

This is a great series. My mom suggested it to me after I broke up with my boyfriend in October. This series is Fun and very empowering for women. The characters are fun and feisty. This team of women sort of reminds me of Ocean's 11 (each teammate performing a series of small cons and deceptions unique to the women's talents and together the cons help them pull off their missions). This series is about a team of 7 women (and a former British secret service man) whom have all been failed by the justice system. Together, each book sets into motion a revenge operation to provide each sister with vigilantly style justice. Over all - I give this series 5 stars. :-) It was a great series to read post break-up.

A bunch of women vigilantes take on the FBI and investigative reporters and win. This author lacks credibility, lacks details. Men and women supposedly good friends planning and carrying out very risky, life threatening, voluntary capers do not cry over lovers they are unable to see for a few days or weeks. They do not get into cat fights over nothing. "Lets go kick ass" is not a plan to take down the director of the FBI.

This is one of the most poorly written books I've ever tried to read! I only got through the first 30 pages and had to give up. It's ALL telling! I didn't believe ONE of these characters, - this book is a mess. I didn't realize it was a series. Perhaps that's why the author had to TELL us all this silly facts! I cannot believe anyone would publish tripe like this. Just because someone has been writing for 100 years doesn't mean their are getting better - usually just the opposite - like this book!

With This Ring, I Thee Dread Review

I have to admit I am officially a fan of Ms. Nordin. This is the 3rd book of hers that I have read and enjoyed. The other 2 were historical romances and I was pleased to see she has just the same page turning story with her contemporary romance. Yes it was predictable but aren't all romances, isn't that why we read them? But even though I could guess what was going to happen, I couldn't get those pages turned quick enough to get there. There aren't many books that I will stay up till 1am on a work night to read because I can't put it down, but this was one of them.

I enjoyed the premise of the two characters starting out hating each other, but when I found out why I felt really sorry for them that so many years had been wasted between them. Ms. Nordin also was able to transport me to the remote Alaskan location just as easily as she did with the locations of her historical novels. She is very good at writing a setting that you can just meld into while reading.

In summary this book is a great light-hearted, fun, and quick read.

With This Ring, I Thee Dread Overview

And it all goes according to plan...until Ryan decides to wants to stay married. Then all bets are off.

The best thing about this book was the title - Karin Atkinson Carr - Sacramento, CA
Unbelievably dull. There was no excitement, no tension, no humor, just a chronology of events. This was the worst book I've gotten from amazon to date.

This is the first e-book I've read by Ruth Ann Nordin, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. I totally enjoyed it. Unlike many romance novels today that are more soft core pornography, Ms. Nordin's books are sensitive well written stories with beautiful characters you can fall in love with, page by page, no padding needed. She had me hooked by the first chapter. As a self-published writer and editor of my own small press, I highly recommend "With This Ring I Thee Dread". It's romantic comedy at its best. Tough Customer (Thorndike Press Large Print Basic Series) Review

A crazed stalker victimizing her daughter prompts Caroline King to call Investigator Dodge Hanley, a man she once loved, and hasn't seen in 30 years. The reliving of the past relationship, an incredibly creepy bad guy, and other surprises made this another Sandra Brown page turner that I couldn't put down.

The stalker is the stuff of nightmares, he moves within society and then becomes "unhinged" with obsession.

"Tough Customer" is another wild ride from Sandra Brown. I highly recommend it and give it five stars.

She has become the object of desire of a co-worker, a madman and genius with a penchant for puzzles and games who has spent the past year making Berry’s life hell, and who now has vowed to kill her.Dodge joins forces with local deputy sheriff Ski Nyland, but the alarming situation goes from bad to worse when the stalker begins to claim other victims and leaves an ominous trail of clues as he lethally works his way toward Berry. Finding Perfect (Hqn) Review

Pia O'Brien is taken aback when she learns what she "inherited" from her late best friend Crystal Westland; three embryos from Crystal and her deceased husband Keith who died in Iraq. Stunned Pia knows how much Crystal wanted children but she can't raise plants so wonders why her. Still she decides to honor her friend by bringing one of the embryos to term.

Retired professional football player Raoul Moreno has settled down in Fool's Gold, California. He plans to set up a camp for kids. When Raoul meets a still shocked Pia, he offers to help her with her planned pregnancy as he conceals his link to Keith. Neither Pia nor Raoul expected an attraction that soon leads to love.

The third Fool's Gold "Perfect" contemporary romance (see Almost Perfect and Chasing Perfect) is an entertaining tale mostly due to the lead female protagonist. Pia is terrific as a commitment phobic who has always been popular, but cannot see herself as a mother. While she struggles with Crystal's legacy, she inconveniently falls in love with former Cowboy quarterback Raoul who takes her heart (and the rest of her body) into the end zone. Readers will enjoy this sweet entry as love comes in many ways.

Unbelievable - Lauricella Briggs -
I was looking forward to this book, but was very disappointed. It has a very unbelievable storyline. Are we supposed to believe that this fantastic perfect man is going to fall in love with this woman who wants to have three babies. Yes she was admirable but to marry her for it, where are these men from Fool' Gold, I would like to meet one of them. I hope Susan Mallery does a better job in the future!

Mallery needs to refocus - Michele O. Williams - New York, New York USA
This is a quickly written (not quickly read) frothy book based on an unrealistic premise: because a woman is friends with (not even best friends) with a woman who dies, the friend is willing to impregnate herself with three eggs. She isn't married; has a low income paying job and is in a small apt. She is not even sure she likes kids or wants to have them herself. Come on! Nobody is that nuts.
Mallery use to be great: witty, sharp, interesting characters and situations. Apparently she has run out of steam. I will pass on her next Fool's Gold book, because like the series title, the books are publicized as modern well written romance, but in reality are just rot.
Skip this one.

Enjoyable Read. One of her better ones. - Heather L. Bradley - IL, USA
Susan Mallery is very hit or miss with me. The first book of the Fool's Gold series was pretty good, the second was awful, this book--the third installment of the series was better than the other two.

Pia was a great herione. A flawed, insecure woman trying to make up for past mistakes, she was a genuinely nice person. She took on a lot of responsiblity that most people would balk at. Her decision to have her friend's babies was one of the most selfless things I've ever come across. I don't think I could do it.

Raoul was a decent hero. He too was flawed, had been burned by love before, etc.. Fans of Susan Mallery's Bakery Sisters series will recognize him from "Sweet Spot". I didn't realize it until halfway through this book but I kept thinking he seemed very familiar.

All in all, I thought it was one of Mallery's better books. I enjoyed it and look foward to her next one.

ANTHEM Review

I greatly appreciated Rand's ideas about the relationship of the individual to society and I felt a sense of ecstatic recognition in her final exhortation. However, I was amazed that this book was written by a woman... apparently even Ayn Rand wasn't immune to the mind-numbing patriarchal dogmas of "modern" American society. Not only was the protagonist's female companion merely his follower; I gather that He read all the books and then told her about what he'd learned... then He claimed for himself the exalted role of light-bringer while assigning to her--- motherhood. And finally he joyfully assumes that all His children will be Men and from there on it's Man this and Man that while our erstwhile heroine has faded into nothingness in the grand scheme of the future (maybe she's still gazing at herself in a mirror, where we last left her). I am all for the idea of men and women as equal partners, and Anthem's male-centric viewpoint of the utopian future seems rather odd, and sad, coming from the pen of a woman. I'd like to think that if she had written the book today she'd have escaped this thought tyranny, but it's hard to say, as the trivialization of women is still very much alive and well in American media even now. I guess it goes to show how even free-thinkers have a difficult time escaping the doctrinal confines of their own time and place.

ANTHEM Overview

Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, first published in 1938. It takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age as a result of the evils of irrationality and collectivism and the weaknesses of socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated (for example, the word "I" has disappeared from the language). As is common in her work, Rand draws a clear distinction between the "socialist/communal" values of equality and brotherhood and the "productive/capitalist" values of achievement and individuality. Many of the novella's core themes, such as the struggle between individualism and collectivism, are echoed in Rand's later books, such as The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. However, the style of "Anthem" is unique among Rand's work, more narrative-centered and economical, lacking the intense didactic expressions of philosophical abstraction that occur in later works. It is probably her most accessible work.

Review From A Lefty - Art Turner - Rockford, IL USA
Each one of us comes to new each work of art with certain beliefs and viewpoints which color our perception of the work; in the interest of full disclosure, I shall attempt to briefly describe mine. Politically, my views are probably to the left of most Americans, though they would probably not be considered extraordinary in most western European nations; in terms of religious views, I describe myself as a non-denominational Protestant - I consider myself to being close to what the writer Tony Campolo describes as a "red-letter Christian". In sum, my beliefs are pretty far removed from those of the average Ayn Rand aficionado.

And yet I enjoyed ANTHEM a great deal, at least initially. It's a brisk, entertaining read, and stylistically it's light-years beyond the frankly odious ATLAS SHRUGGED, which I gave up on after several weeks of trying. It's also a solid exemplification of how any ideology can go wrong, taken to extremes. Rand is also obviously passionate about her beliefs, and has the courage of her convictions - always a plus.

And yet, in the end... I just don't get it. What I hold to be core virtues in my world view (compassion, empathy, selflessness) - the ones that, as Rand might have it, I don't have to be socialized into believing or learn out of a book - I just know in my bones are right, don't seem to have much currency in Rand's philosophy. Do I believe everyone deserves a participation trophy for drawing breath? No, of course I don't. Do I believe everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt? Yes, I do - even you, Ms. Rand; that's why I read your book.

We hold these truths to be self evident... - bernie - Arlington, Texas
Equality 7-2521 who speaks of himself in the first person plural makes a few discoveries that lead him to rethink the nature and purpose of man.

I will not go through this short story blow by blow, as the fun in this book is to discover what Equality 7-2521 discovers. Would you draw the same conclusion or follow the same course? You will find yourself kibitzing and cringing.

"You are what your deep, driving desire is. As your desire is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny." (Brihadaranyaka IV.4.5)

For the person that is new to Ayn Rand this is as good place to start, as any and it will be an eye opener. If you have the time to read "Atlas Shrugged" the concepts, thoughts, and speeches are more complete.

Pro or con, you cannot afford to pass this book. You may be surprised to find that you are surrounded by Objectivists.

Present Tense ? - Frankie Sutton - North Carolina
After reading this book, I couldn't help but think of what is going on in our country right now in 2010.
Where socialism is taking hold and making us all "WE". The individualism and freedom is being taken away from us little by little. Ayn Rand put the fears for our future in words way back in 1935. How prophetic that she saw what could happen if we aren't careful to preserve individual freedoms from socialist concepts.
A great read.

The Great Gatsby Review

I always wanted to read The Great Gatsby but for some reason or another it always eluded me. Back in college, almost everyone had read this "great" masterpiece of literature. I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to sink my teeth into this novel and see once and for all what it was all about.

The story was wonderful to read and its subject matter was appealing for the most part. The industrial age must of been a sight to behold. The author does an adequate job of detailing the age and the times of West Egg. Although the lavishness and splendor of the many parties that took place in West Egg were nicely detailed, I found the imagery somewhat sparse and lacking detail at times. The author does a great job of portraying his characters and their morals but for some reason I didn't find this in itself to capture my attention. The story line was so-so in my opinion and could of been better. But in the end, this novel was worth the read. I'm happy I had the opportunity to finally have read this book and eventhough slightly disappointed, say that I experienced what it must of been like living in West Egg during the Golden Age.

The Great Gatsby Overview

Noted Fitzgerald biographer Matthew J. Bruccoli draws upon years of research to present the Fitzgerald's Jazz Age romance exactly as he intended according to the original manuscript, revisions, and corrections--with explanatory notes. Reprint.

The Great Gatsby Specifications

In 1922, F. Scott Fitzgerald announced his decision to write "something new--something extraordinary and beautiful and simple + intricately patterned." That extraordinary, beautiful, intricately patterned, and above all, simple novel became The Great Gatsby, arguably Fitzgerald's finest work and certainly the book for which he is best known. A portrait of the Jazz Age in all of its decadence and excess, Gatsby captured the spirit of the author's generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology. Self-made, self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby embodies some of Fitzgerald's--and his country's--most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings. "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning--" Gatsby's rise to glory and eventual fall from grace becomes a kind of cautionary tale about the American Dream.

It's also a love story, of sorts, the narrative of Gatsby's quixotic passion for Daisy Buchanan. The pair meet five years before the novel begins, when Daisy is a legendary young Louisville beauty and Gatsby an impoverished officer. They fall in love, but while Gatsby serves overseas, Daisy marries the brutal, bullying, but extremely rich Tom Buchanan. After the war, Gatsby devotes himself blindly to the pursuit of wealth by whatever means--and to the pursuit of Daisy, which amounts to the same thing. "Her voice is full of money," Gatsby says admiringly, in one of the novel's more famous descriptions. His millions made, Gatsby buys a mansion across Long Island Sound from Daisy's patrician East Egg address, throws lavish parties, and waits for her to appear. When she does, events unfold with all the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama, with detached, cynical neighbor Nick Carraway acting as chorus throughout. Spare, elegantly plotted, and written in crystalline prose, The Great Gatsby is as perfectly satisfying as the best kind of poem.

INCREDIBLY slow unless you understand the symbolism - A to the T -
To understand the book, it's a good idea to understand the meaing behind colors and to identify the pages where the colors appear and how they correlate with the books content and overall message. This is not a novel that is simply an enjoable read. Constant analyzation and understanding is needed throughout the process of reading it. Only after understanding does the novel become a literary classic and icon.

I'm not sure if it's possible to not like this book. It's eloquently written and interesting. A classic love story, that will remain timeless. If you were forced to read it in high school and didn't like it I suggest a quick revisit to the timeless tale. It was wonderful. I'd recommend it to anyone and since it's a short book it only takes a weekend to get through.

Trust Me on This (Loveswept) Review

The word that best describes TMOT is fun. I started smiling practically on the first page, and by the time the book was over, my face was aching from laughing so hard.

Reporter Dennie Banks is in a bad place professionally, so she needs a good story, an important story. Her best idea is to go to an upcoming Literary Conference to try to interview a famous feminist author, the authority on what makes a good marriage. See, Dennie has just caught wind of the woman's impending divorce, and she just knows this will be an incredible story.

Of course, Dennie very definitely does not intend to exploit this story. Oh, no, she wants to help, she wants to make sure the first story to come out about it is respectful and sympathetic, hoping this might set the tone for the rest of the press' coverage. Too bad she doesn't handle the initial approach very well. The author doesn't believe her, and Dennie ends up accused of harassment and almost kicked out of the hotel where the conference is taking place. But she refuses to give up. She will get this interview, even if she has to approach her quarry in an indirect way, maybe through one of her friends...

Also present at the hotel is Alec Prentice, a Federal agent working undercover to catch a conman. Alec is there with his aunt Victoria, a well-known academic. Through some funny coincidences, he becomes convinced that Dennie is an accomplice of the conman he's hunting, and so it begins: Alec trying to use Dennie to get at his man, and Dennie trying to use Alec to get at her woman, because it just so happens that Alec's aunt is very good friends with her...

I think what I loved best of all here was the dialogue. That was the main thing that kept me smiling. No one does banter like Crusie. It's witty and funny and it makes the chemistry between Alec and Dennie just sizzle.

And there is quite a lot of chemistry between them in the first place. There's tons of energy in their relationship, and you could see the compatibility perfectly. Sometimes you don't really understand why these two people in particular are so hung up on one another, but with Alec and Dennie it's so obvious. It's really obvious they are absolutely perfect for one another, and when they think that they'll never find someone who suits them so well as the other person, I had to agree completely.

There's also a wonderful secondary romance here, between Harry, Alec's boss, and Victoria, his aunt. This was a surprisingly sweet romance, considering how strong and temperamental these were, and though they don't get much space, Harry and Victoria totally steal the show when they're onstage.

Even the conman plot (which is a theme I usually don't see why people are so fascinated with, really), with all its comings and goings, was entertaining and felt fresh. I really urge you to pick this one up if you ever come accross it in a UBS, and not just because of the great resale value!

Trust Me on This (Loveswept) Overview

New York Times bestselling novelist Jennifer Crusie combines fast-paced banter, sexy situations, and unforgettable characters in this delightful romance about two reluctant lovers who couldn’t be more wrong about being right for each other.

TRUST ME ON THIS

Dennie Banks is an investigative reporter chasing down the biggest story of her career. Alec Prentice is a government agent working undercover to catch an elusive grifter. When they meet by accident, it’s a case of mistaken identities at first sight. What they don’t mistake is the instant attraction they have for each other, an attraction they’ll do everything in their power to resist—because Dennie thinks that Alec is running interference for her interview subject, and Alec suspects that Dennie is linked to his swindler. As the confusion grows, so do their feelings for each other, and what begins as a romantic comedy of errors may just end in the love affair of a lifetime.

Trust Me on This (Loveswept) Specifications

Jennifer Crusie believes there is a difference between male and female humor: male humor is slapstick and often pokes fun at people (like Three Stooges); female humor is derived from the relationship of things or people to one another, such as in a Seinfeld episode on television. A case of mistaken identities is the perfect soil for Crusie's "female" humor in Trust Me on This. Dennie Banks is a serious reporter, hot on a story, not a con man's moll. Alec Prentice is a clever, undercover agent, not a dumb male chauvinist hunk. Dennie and Alec can't quite read each other because they have ulterior motives. Thank goodness their hormones keep getting in the way. Eventually they are going to get to know each other, whether they want to or not.

Trust Me on This by Jennifer Crusie - K. Shibata - CA
I have read several Jennifer Crusie books and enjoyed them. I therefore wanted to read everything she has written but found several out of date (no longer published). When I found this book on Amazon.com I purchased it - it arrived quickly but unfortunately I read it in only a couple of days. The price was good (as well as s/h). If you enjoy reading Crusie's books you should get this one.

One more great Crusie - L. Coltharp - Somewhere in TX USA
A great Crusie story. Fun, quick and witty. Great, full main and secondary characters. Alec and Dennie really deserve each other. Both have gotten along on their looks and charm for too long. Harry and Victoria are a wonderful second story. A joy to read.

Mistaken Identity Theme Done Well For A Change - mayfayre - New Jersey USA
In this book Ms. Crusie gives us two fine romances for the price of one. The mistaken identity theme concerns the thirty-somethings' romance, and there's also a romance between a "mature" couple that puts a new twist on the older woman/younger man storyline. Both romances are fun, sexy, and true to their characters.

Dennie Banks is stuck in a dead-end society page reporter's job and decides to take charge of her life and get an interview with a famous writer who's know for her astute observations about interpersonal relationships. However Dennie has just gotten the scoop that the writer is on the verge of a divorce, and she sees this as her chance for the big time. Alec Prentice works for the government investigating fraud cases. He is on the trail of a land swindler, and just happens to wind up at the same conference that Dennie is attending. Of course, he mistakes her for the swindler's accomplice, and the story takes off from there. It is pure fun to watch two people who are used to getting their own way on charm alone finally meet their match.

In other hands this would be a trite and ho-hum story, but Ms. Crusie's excellent characterizations and sharp dialogue make this a joy to read. What I like best about her writing is that she lets you know all of the main characters' thoughts and emotions, not just the female lead. This is one book that is worth finding, and here's hoping that it'll be reissued soon.

The Brazen Bride (The Black Cobra Quartet) Review

I have throughly enjoyed the first 2 books in this series, but consider this the best one. I thought after 2 books the plot would get old: a military man traveling from India to England on a spy mission, joined up with a female companion/future wife, battling bad guys to bring down the evil Black Cobra Cult. But Laurens does a great job of shaking things up and and introducing a new type of heroine. Linnet is very likable: a strong, compassionate woman with surprising strengths and skills. Logan has had his own challenges in life, and is a great foil for Linnet. The locales are interesting, the skirmishes with the Black Cobra Cult believable and exciting; the growing bond between Linnet and Logan enjoyable. I liked the fleshing out of the bad guys as well. Definitely worth buying!

There is NO bride; very poorly written - Dodie's Doodles - Atlanta, Georgia
I think that this book managed to get published simply because of the author's name. It is so horrible I couldn't even finish it, and skipped to the last two pages when I realized this was a stupid book that made no sense. I bought this book thinking it was about a bride and her new life in a rugged location with her husband. There is no bride in this book. And not only is there no bride, but the scenes make no sense whatsoever. For example, near the book opening, the man is the perfect, consumate lover but he is doing so while in a coma and the female keeps checking to make sure his eyes are shut so she knows he's still comatose. Isn't that the most stupid thing you have ever read? Has the author done any research on what it means to be comatose? At all? Oh, and I forgot to mention that the man has a large head wound, a gash down his side that exposes ribs and continues in a curved shape across the abdomen, where someone had tried to disembowel him. Ms. Laurens is a talented author, it just isn't evident in this book.

A Gem of a Great Read - B. Johnson - New Jersey, USA
I enjoy reading novels written by Stephanie Laurens and The Brazen Bride from The Black Cobra Quartet is no exception. I like the interplay between all the couples in the novels and the interjection of my beloved Cynsters. The fact that the heroines are not retiring, blushing do-nothing women is such a joy. Honoria Cynster from Devil's Bride is one of my favorite people from any of Stephanie's novels. It is a pleasure to find her popping up in other books as well. Thanks, Stephanie, for many hours of pure reading fun! Your books have a permanent spot on my bookshelves to be read and re-read.

Couldn't Put It Down! - 4Sterling -
Not sure why others have given this book bad reviews but I LOVED it and didn't want to put it down. Not only do you get to know what happens next in the series, you also get to revisit Cynsters & and characters from the Bastion Club series. Yes there is a lot more steam sex scenes in this book than the others but it didn't bother me like it bothered some. The female is a strong & unconventional woman (much like most of Stephanie Laurens characters) which I found a great opposite for the male lead. If you love Stephanie Laurens, you got to read this series, I suggest reading Cynsters books and Bastion Club books too.

Seduce Me at Sunrise (The Hathaways, Book 2) Review

I have read all 5 in this series of the Hathaway's set in mid 19th century England: Mine Till Midnight, Seduce Me At Sunrise, Tempt Me At Twilight, Married by Morning, and Love in the Afternoon. They are the stories of the romances of the Hathaway siblings...all but one are females. The first book told the story of the Gypsy Cam Rohan and his love, Amelia, the oldest sister. Now we have the story of the blond, blue-eyed and etherial Win. As a child, she suffered from scarlet fever that left her weak. To recover, she and her brother go to a clinic in France where the head doc falls for her. But all of her life, she's been loved by the dark, brooding and mysterious Gypsy Kev Merripan. We first encountered Win and Kev in Mine Till Midnight and I couldn't wait to read their story. Kev fights his feelings that Win believing she is too good for him but there is great passion between them. Will passion overtake his competition and his misgivings? It's down to the wire before we know and getting there is oh so sweet. I just loved the Gypsy words and love traditions Kleypas adds to the story. This book is better than the first in the series in my opinion.

New Kleypas reader: Great read! - Nina Reader -
I've only read a few of Lisa Kleypas' books in the past. My sister recently handed me this book and said that it was a must read. All I can do is rave about this book to her and to everyone. I loved this Kleypas book. Now I have to get the rest of the Hathaway series to find out what happens. For other new Kleypas readers, I am writing this review to share that this book is so passionate, so poignant, and so entralling. I loved it!!!

Soooo Romantic! - El - Parkville, MD
This is my absolute favorite one of the series. I read this book in a single day. Could not put it down. It's too bad men like Kev only exist in books. *sigh*

Best Tortured Hero I've read so far! 4.5* Kev Merripen is memorable - Annabelle - Jakarta, Indonesia
I borrowed this book from my friend, coz nothing keep me interest in buying more of LK's book after I have the Wallflower series & read "Dreamin of you"... Sorry, but LK's book seem a bit flat ( I mean the 'plot' ) compare of other authors lately I've read such Maggie Osborne, LaVyrle Spencer, Virginia Henley & etc.
However this book is beyond my expectation, I never thought story of Merripen will that** wonderful!
Well, Merripen will be one of my fav Hero after all, He is so...I dont' know how to describe. Maybe the most lovable, protective, edgy, & jealous Hero (ofcourse imo, this book has the best 'jealous' ). Oh, and one more thing, perhaps the best 1st-love scene ..maybe because of the tension which has bare too long.
Merripen love to Win is Total & Superb! I love this type of Hero. Tortured but not too brooding. Rough but really gentle to Heroine. Great book! Merripen is awesome!!
You just have to read it by yourself. Very memorable love story.
