Great Price for

The Mane Event Review

I've read every book Shelly Laurenston/G.A.Aiken has written and have on order everything she has coming up for release. Own most in paperback and ebook as I never want to be without the ability to re-read. If you want really wild and fun characters and some crazy matings (really laugh out loud until tears are running down your face), this is the author for you.

The Mane Event Overview

Mace Llewellyn. Brendon Shaw. Two tall, gorgeous, sexy alpha heroes who are 100% male--with a little something extra. Lion-shifters, to be exact, who can unleash every woman's animal side and still look good--make that spectacular--in a suit. . .and even better out of it. . .

NYPD cop Desiree "Dez" MacDermot knows she's changed a lot since she palled around with her childhood buddy, Mace. But it's fair to say that Mace has changed even more. It isn't just those too-sexy gold eyes, or the six-four, built-like-a-Navy Seal body. It's something in the way he sniffs her neck and purrs, making her entire body tingle. . . Meanwhile, for Tennessean Ronnie Lee Reed, New York City is the place where any girl--even one who runs with a Pack--can redefine herself. First order of business: find a mate, settle down, and stop using men for sex. Even big, gorgeous, lion shifter men like Brendon Shaw. But she needn't worry, because now that Brendon's set his sights on her, the predator in him is ready to pounce and never let go. . .

A playful escape with a lot of hot sex scenes, but don't expect much in the way of plot, relationship development, and romance. - Jane Stewart - Chicago, Illinois
This book has two short stories which are similar. The guy is a lion shifter. He smells a woman and knows she is his mate for life. He is obsessed with being with her, touching her, and having sex. The woman doesn't want a relationship, but she is unable to resist him sexually. The second story was a little better than the first.

CHRISTMAS PRIDE:

STORY BRIEF:
Mace and Dez (Desiree) were best friends in high school until Dez moved away. Mace spent 14 years in the Navy, and now comes back to town for Dez. He has loved her the entire time and his only goal is to make her his. Dez was in the marines and is now a NY City cop. She is sexually drawn to Mace, but she doesn't want any commitment or talk of love. Mace is a lion shape shifter. Dez is human. Their entire relationship seems to be about sex. He is touching her, petting her and having sex with her pretty much throughout the story. And when he is not, he is thinking about it.

When the story begins, Dez does not know shifters exist. Mace's best buddy from the Navy is a wolf shifter. Hyena shifters cause problems for the lion shifters. There are also other lion shifters causing problems for Mace's family (his pride). Someone kills Mace's brother. Mace's sister doesn't think Dez is good enough for Mace.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
I wanted more plot development and more relationship development. I was tired of hearing how turned on Mace was and how much he wanted Dez. I don't recommend spending money on this, but it might be ok from the library for those hungry for shape shifter books. The best parts were probably the sex scenes which were pretty hot.

DATA:
Story length: 223 pages. Number of sex scenes: 10. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 31.

SHAW'S TAIL:

STORY BRIEF:
Brendan Shaw is a lion shape shifter. He was beaten and almost killed by other shifters when some friends rescued him. He was taken to a hospital. None of his lion relatives were able or willing to stay with him, so someone asked Ronnie to stay while he was in the hospital. Ronnie is a wolf shifter. When Brendan smells Ronnie, he can't resist her. He's never been drawn to anyone like this before. Ronnie only wants short term dating and fears commitment. A second story is about Brendan's brother Mitch who keeps disappearing and never tells Brendan what's going on. There is some time spent with the families of Brendan and Ronnie.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
Most of the story seems to be about Brendan being obsessed with Ronnie and wanting sex all the time. There wasn't much story or plot. Something about Mitch is revealed toward the end but his mystery is told and not shown. For a lot of hot sex scenes, this was pretty good, but I prefer more plot, character, and relationship development, and maybe a little more in the dialogue area.

DATA:
Story length: 195 pages. Number of sex scenes: 8. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 25.

DATA FOR BOTH STORIES COMBINED:
Story length: 418 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 18. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 56. Setting: current day New York City area. Copyright: 2007 and 2009. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

Wonderful, interesting, and laugh-out-loud funny - TNreader - Memphis, TN
This book is delightful! The characters are wonderful, the story interesting, and the dialogue is so funny it had me laughing out loud all the way through.

My favorite quote is when Mace said to his friend Smitty: "You admit nothing. Deny everything. Demand proof. Did you learn nothing in Boot Camp?"

Ugh! - Not Telling -
Seriously, do not bother with this piece of junk. Where did she do her research on the city for this? As a born and raised New Yorker, I'm embarrassed at the way she portrayed these people. The dialogue and everything was so inaccurate. The plot, written badly and uninteresting. The romance - what romance? There was no romance, it was just sex, and it wasn't even intense, passionate sex. It was angry sex with stupid jokes between them.

Desiree was cold and too afraid of trusting Mace. She was also a bad depiction of an NYC cop. At the end of the story, she said, "So, you're just using me...like a whore?" When he said yes, and she said okay, I was thoroughly disgusted and wanted to burn the freaking thing.

Mace confused me. He hated her in the beginning, wanted to make her suffer and realize how she had broken his heart. Then suddenly he's constantly asking her for sex. It was like he was still a teenage boy.

Ronnie Lee was the weirdest of them all. She made decisions that contradicted everything, she was stupid, conceited, and annoying.

Shaw was probably the most normal of them all. He was the only one I could stand. He was actually funny at the right times. The others weren't.
